MSU Cricket Club maintained a perfect away record in season-ball cricket with this trip to Hattiesburg. This game was crucial as MSU was fielding a new crop of talented but untested players with an eye on the future. There were as many as five debutants among the final playing eleven. As a sign of things to come, the young turks in the team stepped up to be counted in a excellent all round display.

Abdud and Dipesh opened the innings for MSU with characteristic attacking strokeplay backed up by solid defense. Dipesh raced off to 27 with 5 boundaries before he holed out in the deep. The middle overs saw a brilliant partnership between Abdud and Chandru in face of some accurate bowling by Hattiesburg. Chandru has shown a lot of promise in batting in the recent past and he lived up to all expectations this time and then some more with technically correct and aggressive batsmanship for his 40. Abdud played the role of sheet anchor to perfection in a marathon innings of 40 giving another display of awesome temperament and unflagging concentration. He played through almost to the end of the innings keeping the juniors company and guiding them at the wicket. Harpreet, Amit, Prasad and Vinod produced some quick runs at the bottom of the order carrying the total to 198, the highest ever for MSU.

The Hattiesburg team openers took guard facing an asking rate of almost seven runs an over. MSU opening bowlers Kotesh and Dipesh bowled on a probing line around the off stump, which ultimately brought them a breakthrough in the fourth over. The batsmen were tied down with accurate bowling and were forced to score only in ones and twos. The middle overs saw some controlled spells of swing bowling by Chandru and Dakshesh, both of whom got crucial wickets whenever batsmen were beginning to put together a partnership. The latter half of the innings saw a acceleration by the batsmen with some quick scoring and lusty hits by Paresh, Sunil bhai and Viral. Raju and Viral took the fight right up to the last over. Dipesh made a tremendous comeback in the last over by knocking over two wickets with the last two balls of the match. MSU bowlers pulled it back in the end in an exciting finish to a fantastic days cricket. The debutant bowlers Kotesh and Prasad put up a good show along with the regular stalwarts in physically taxing conditions to earn another victory for MSU. This second victorious tour set us up to extend our domination over other teams in the region.
